When something goes wrong on your VPS, you want one answer: what actually happened? A disconnect mid-trade, a trading platform that crashed, a VPS that restarted on its own, Remote Desktop that would not connect. QuantVPS Detect+ (beta) records all of it for you. It runs on your VPS, reports every 5 minutes, and is free on every plan during the beta.

Before You Start

  • New Windows VPSs come with Detect+ installed. On an older VPS or an Ubuntu VPS, install it first: follow Set up Detect+ monitoring and alerts.
  • Write down when you saw the problem, with your time zone, for example "1:42 PM ET on May 3".
  • If your platform logs disconnects (NinjaTrader, Tradovate, Rithmic, IBKR and TradingView do), keep that log open too.

Open Detect+

  1. Sign in to your QuantVPS dashboard.
  2. If you have more than one VPS: in the top bar, click Selected server and choose the VPS.
  3. In the sidebar on the left, click Detect+. On a phone, tap Detect+ in the tab bar at the bottom of the screen.

Detect+ opens on Health: CPU, memory, disk, internet, Remote Desktop and uptime at a glance, with a list of what needs a look, worst first. To look further back, click a range from 30m to 60d.

Find What Happened

Start from what you saw. Each row says where to look in Detect+.

What you sawWhere to lookWhat Detect+ shows
The VPS restarted on its own, or showed a blue screenHealth › Uptime and restartsEach restart and its cause: a crash with its stop code, Windows Update, or a restart someone started
The trading platform closed, crashed or frozeHealth › Trading platformsWhich program crashed or stopped responding, and when
Remote Desktop disconnected or would not connectRemote DesktopWhether Remote Desktop answered, each session and sign-in with the address it came from, and failed sign-ins
The platform lost its broker or data feed connectionNetworkLatency to your broker and data feed servers, failed connections, packet loss, and the route traced when loss started
The VPS felt slowHealthCPU, memory, disk and internet history. Open a tile for its chart

Times in Detect+ use the time zone in Detect+ › Settings. Match them to the time you wrote down.

Compare With Your Broker's Log

For a disconnect, line up three times: when you saw it, your platform's disconnect log, and Detect+.

  • The platform dropped, and Detect+ shows a problem at the same time (a restart, failed connections or packet loss): the cause is on the VPS or its network. Contact support with the time. We can fix it.
  • The platform dropped, and Detect+ shows nothing at that time: the VPS and its connection held. The cause is most likely on the broker's or data feed's side.
  • Remote Desktop dropped, but the platform stayed connected: the VPS kept trading. The problem is between your own computer and the VPS, such as your internet or Wi-Fi.

Get an Email Next Time

Detect+ can email you when the VPS goes offline, loses its connection, restarts, or when your trading platform crashes. A new VPS starts with the default alerts on. To check or change them, open Detect+ › Settings › Alerts, turn on VPS connection and Restart if they are off, then click Save. Every alert and its setting: Turn on the recommended alerts.

Contact Support

  1. Let support see your Detect+ data. Open Detect+ › Settings › Support access and allow it, or click Share until I stop at the top of the Detect+ page. Support sees nothing until you allow it.
  2. Open a ticket from your dashboard. Tell us:
    • The exact time or times you saw the problem, with your time zone.
    • What you saw: did the VPS restart, did the trading platform close, did Remote Desktop drop, did anything show on screen?
    • For a disconnect: a screenshot of your platform's disconnect log, if you have one.
  3. For a blue screen: if C:\Windows\Minidump holds a recent .dmp file, share the newest one as a Google Drive or Dropbox link. Email attachments of .dmp files do not reach us.

Detect+ tells us what the VPS recorded. Your times and notes tell us what you saw. Together they show whether the problem was on the VPS, the network, the broker, or your own connection.

What Detect+ Records

  • Windows events: crashes, blue screens and their stop codes, hardware and disk errors, service failures, low memory, network drops, Remote Desktop sessions and errors, starts, restarts and updates. Kept 90 days.
  • Programs: which trading platforms run, and when one crashes or stops responding.
  • Network: latency and failed connections to your broker and data feed servers, packet loss, and traced routes.
  • Resources: CPU, memory and disk history. Reports are kept 60 days.

Detect+ never sees your files, your screen, your passwords or what you type.
