Checked on CME Group's holiday and trading hours page on 10 Oct 2026. All times are Central Time (CT). After a Friday holiday or early close, every group reopened or reopens at 5:00 p.m. CT on Sunday. CME notes that "Trading hours are usually finalized approximately two weeks prior to the holiday", so check the calendar again in the week before each date.
Grain and livestock futures keep their own shorter day sessions and are not in this table. CME Bitcoin futures also run on a separate schedule, so check their row on CME's page if you trade crypto.

Early Closes and the Next Session Open
After an early close, the next session opens at the normal 5:00 p.m. CT on the next trading evening, which is Sunday after a Friday early close. A Monday holiday halt is a pause, not a close: trading resumes at 5:00 p.m. CT the same day.
These are the closes still ahead in 2026:

Thanksgiving week for ES, NQ and ZN (Central Time). Energy, metals and FX close later on Friday.
How Holidays Change the Trade Date
On a Monday holiday, CME books Sunday evening, the short Monday session and Tuesday to one trade date. For Labor Day, CME's data put the Sunday 6 Sep open and the Monday reopen on the trade date of Tuesday 8 Sep, so anything that resets daily, such as a daily loss limit, spans all three.
How Holidays Affect Prop Firm Trading Days
Prop firms follow CME's holiday hours but set their own rules for close-out times and for how a holiday session counts as a trading day. The table quotes three firms' help pages, checked on 10 Oct 2026.
| Firm | Holiday rule (quoted) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Topstep | "Close all positions 15 minutes before early close (e.g., close by 11:45 CT for a 12:00 CT close)". Blended CME trade dates apply to the Live Funded Account, not the Trading Combine or Express Funded Account. | Topstep Holiday Trading Hours |
| Apex Trader Funding | "For most market holidays and CME half-day schedules, trading activity during the holiday or half-day session will be combined with the next full trading day and counted as a single trading day." | Apex Holiday Trading |
| Lucid Trading | "On market holidays with altered hours, you must be flat before the market close." | Lucid General FAQ |
Apex also says "The Daily Loss Limit will reset at 6:00 PM ET following the next full trading day." Topstep adds that positions still open at its cutoff are auto-liquidated and that "Payouts are not available during holiday hours." Rules change, so read your firm's page before each holiday.

Running Futures Strategies Over a Holiday
A strategy that runs unattended needs the holiday schedule as much as a manual trader does. If it expects a 4:00 p.m. CT close on Christmas Eve, it will still hold a position after the 12:15 p.m. CT early close in ES.
A CME VPS in Chicago sits 0.52ms from CME and keeps your platform running through the 5:00 p.m. CT reopen while your own PC is off. QuantVPS servers run with 99.999% uptime and always-on DDoS protection with advanced filtering.
