Run Databento data pipelines on a VPS

  1. Connect to the server

Choose an OS supported by your client: use RDP for a Windows VPS or SSH for Linux, then install the required runtime and dependencies.

  2. Install the supported data client

Set up the official client for your runtime and store your Databento API key securely outside source code.

  3. Choose datasets and schemas

Verify entitlements, symbology, and live or historical requests; test ingestion, record handling, and storage limits on a small dataset first.

  4. Supervise the running service

Run the client under a service manager, monitor logs and positions, and handle reconnects and API limits. Test restart recovery before leaving it unattended.

What changes when your DataBento clients run on QuantVPS.

Five things change when your DataBento clients move off your desk: where your orders start, how you reach the platform, how it holds up in a fast market, how fast it comes back after a failure, and the hardware under it.

1Execution

Consume Databento Feeds at Full Speed with Our Chicago Databento VPS. Optimized low-latency routing.

A live Databento feed is only as fast as the server consuming it. Our Chicago Databento VPS sits 0-5ms from CME, so real-time MBO, MBP, and trades data arrives with minimal network delay, and AMD Ryzen with DDR5 keeps your Python, C++, or Rust client from becoming the bottleneck. Turn ticks into signals and orders with the least latency possible.

2Access

Manage Your Databento Pipeline Over SSH from Anywhere. 99.999% uptime SLA.

Data systems need to run unattended. Root SSH access and our web control panel let you monitor ingestion, restart services, pull historical batches, and deploy code changes to your Databento VPS from any machine, while your live subscriptions keep streaming around the clock.

What is a VPS for Databento?

A Databento VPS hosts applications that consume Databento live or historical market data. Your collectors, analytics, and storage processes run on the server; Databento remains the external data service. API access and exchange entitlements must be obtained separately.

3Volatility

Handle Message-Rate Spikes: Keep Your Databento Feed Stable Through the Busiest Sessions. Stable through market volatility.

CME message rates explode around the open, economic releases, and rollover, and that is when under-resourced machines drop packets and fall behind. A dedicated Databento VPS provides consistent CPU, memory, and network capacity so your feed handler keeps pace and your strategy sees the same market everyone else does. All of it runs with 99.999% uptime on enterprise hardware in professionally managed datacenters with 24/7 on-site staff, a level of reliability no office PC can match.

4Backups

Protect Your Data Infrastructure: Secure Backups for Your Databento VPS. Automated backup workflows.

Your ingestion code, schemas, cached historical datasets, and strategy research represent real work. Our automated backup system safeguards your complete Databento VPS, so your pipeline can be restored quickly rather than rebuilt from scratch.

5Hardware

The QuantVPS Advantage: Purpose-Built Hosting for Databento Users. Dedicated CPU, memory, and NVMe.

Generic cloud instances are not tuned for market data workloads. QuantVPS places your Databento VPS in Chicago for 0-5ms latency to CME, on Ubuntu 24.04 with enterprise AMD Ryzen and DDR5 hardware, dedicated resources, a dedicated IP, root access, and 24/7 support. Choose infrastructure built for traders who run their own data. Deploy in under 60 seconds with a 14-day money-back guarantee; if you are switching from another VPS provider, we migrate your DataBento setup for you and your first month is free.

Choosing the best VPS for Databento

Size memory and network capacity for selected schemas and instrument counts, and storage for historical downloads and retained records. Validate dataset and symbol mappings before expanding ingestion. Respect subscription, licensing, and redistribution limits on the data you receive.

DataBento VPS FAQ.

DataBento questions, answered
Sound familiar?5 common ones

Ever missed a setup because you were away from your desk?

Your platform keeps running. Log back in from any device.

If any of these sound familiar, a trading VPS is the fix.

Install the supported SDK or client for your language and configure your own Databento API access. The server runs your market-data application, not a desktop exchange terminal or the Databento service itself.

Market data and order execution are separate concerns. Use an approved broker connection for orders and verify instrument mappings between it and your Databento dataset. A data feed alone is not a brokerage account.

Historical jobs can create large bursts of network, CPU, and disk use, while live ingestion needs steady processing and recovery. Separate scheduling and resource budgets so bulk downloads do not starve the live consumer.

Choose the dataset, symbology, and record schema required by your analysis and entitlements. Trades, quotes, and deeper order-book data have different volumes. Validate timestamps and symbol mapping before combining sources.

Estimate using subscribed instruments, schema density, session length, and retention. Monitor actual growth, use appropriate compression, and keep sufficient free space for the operating system and ingestion recovery.

Only as permitted by your Databento and exchange agreements. Hosting records on your own server does not change licensing, retention, or redistribution obligations. Confirm rights before exposing data to other users.
